Ladies and Gentlemen, We Have a Winner
The annual New York Yacht Club Vanguard-15 Team Race Regatta took place in Narragansett Bay this past weekend. Fifteen teams contested in one of the most competitive team racing regattas leading up to the Hinman Trophy (US Open).
Qualifying Round: 15 flights were sailed in a total of 105 races for once complete round robin. Each win in the qualifying round was worth 1 point. Ladies and Gentlemen lead with a near perfect 14-1. The Steamboat Bird-Feeders, representing Larchmont Yacht Club, sat in second with 11 wins and Triple Action with 9. A peloton followed: making the cut with 8 points was White H.A.M., Big Whoop!, Pistols, Eastern Yacht Club, and THE Woonsocket Rockets.
Gold Round: Double Jeopardy here with every win now worth 2 points instead of 1. With 7 races for each team in the Gold Round, there was plenty of opportunity for the rest of the fleet to catch and pass the top three teams. Yet, the leaders continued to perform through Day 2 of the event. Ladies and Gentlemen, The Steamboat Bird-Feeders, and Triple Action all went 6 for 7 in the Gold Round, adding 12 points to their score from the Qualifying Round. This cemented their places as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectfully.
Congrats to Taylor Canfield/Stephanie Roble, Tyler Sinks/Lucy Wallace, and Michael Menninger/Marla Menninger, for a great regatta (20-2 on the weekend).
